Before you clear a former tenant's belongings
Rubbish is one thing; a tenant's personal possessions are another. If a tenant has left belongings behind, landlords usually need to give written notice and a reasonable time to collect them before disposal (under the Torts (Interference with Goods) Act 1977). If the tenancy ended unusually — abandonment, eviction or a death — take advice from your agent or a solicitor before arranging a full clearance.
Anything that looks personal or valuable that we find during a clearance — documents, photos, keys, jewellery — is set aside and handed to you rather than cleared.
